GUN BUYBACK THIS WEEKEND AND THE NEW J.T. WEATHER REPORT

A super-brief update from yours truly due to some technical issues with my microphone over these last few days. Our photo for this episode is provided by Al Seib of the Los Angeles Times.

First up, this Saturday, March 4th, the LAPD and L.A. City Council Member Tim McOsker are hosting a Gun Buyback program at 544 North Avalon Blvd in the city of Wilmington. This event will take place from 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM and is sponsored by a grant of $42,000 from L.A. County Board Supervisor Janice Hahn. L.A. residents are encouraged to turn in any weapon in their possession anonymously in exchange for gift-cards of $100 – $200, according to Council Member Tim McOsker at L.A. City Council’s meeting on Wednesday, March 1st.

Next up, we received our first Listener Report for the new J.T. Weather Report!

Here are the four easy steps to take when calling into the new hotline:

I. Choose an interesting nickname for yourself to keep your anonymity.

II. Tell me which side of The City (or County) you’re calling from.

III. Tell me how you’re liking the weather, or if you’ve seen anything interesting through it like a downed power line, fallen tree, a pack of opossums, etc.

IV. Keep it under a minute! This helps us tune in to more reports rather than less.

***And if you’d like to keep your number anonymous as well, did you know that pressing *67 before you dial a number keeps your number blocked? That’s right!

Submit your voicemail to the J.T. Weather Report at (213) 458-5042.

JT SPEAKS WITH COUNCIL MEMBER SOTO-MARTINEZ THIS THURSDAY + OUR NEW VOICEMAIL FEATURE

First things first, we shout out Robert Chlala for the opportunity to speak with his class at Cal State University Long Beach’s Sociology department this past week. If you’d like to book yours truly for a speaking engagement in your classroom or community, you can make an inquiry through info@jimbotimes.com.

Secondly, we note the significance of Dianne Feinstein’s retirement, including because Congressional Representative for the [historic] 28th district–now the 30th district due to California’s population loss–Adam Schiff has now declared his candidacy to become the next Senator for California.

Next up, we note that our interview with Council Member Soto-Martinez (@HugoForCD13) is back on through IG LIVE (@jimbotimes) this Thursday, February 23rd at 7 PM.

We also note that our team at Making a Neighborhood is reaching our first full year of publication! If you’re interested in joining us to celebrate the milestone, you need to RSVP through Eventbrite.

Finally, yours truly introduces a new VOICEMAIL feature for the podcast to discuss none other than L.A. weather! Leave a voicemail at (213) 458-5042 with your thoughts on the skies above over the last week or so and also tell us which side of the city (or county) you’re calling from. I look forward to hearing your anecdotes.
