The answer is probably not, but his father, Fred Trump, sure was!

In 1905 Donald Trump’s grandfather Friedrich Trump, originally born in Kallstadt, was threatened with deportation for failing to report for military services in the 1880s. When he nonetheless pleaded to be allowed to return permanently to Bavaria from the U.S., he was denied and forced to return to New York, where they’d give birth and raise Fred Trump, the 45th President’s father; should the administration explore the possibility of revoking citizenship, then, based on these facts they just may have to line the president up for a deportation hearing as well.

Back to Bavaria to live out Grandpa Friedrich’s dream, perhaps? This + a little primer on the Bill of Rights, Sections 1 – 5, for the latest installment of J.T. the L.A. Storyteller Podcast.

2,000 National Guard troops are to return to base immediately, while another 2,000 are to remain, so in this installment we consider just what the administration’s deployment of National Guard personnel—after wresting control of them from Newsom—has actually meant for communities across Los Angeles and Southern California. In other words, what has the deployment actually achieved, and for whom? We also consider the recent injunction by U.S. District Judge Frimpong in favor of a civil lawsuit against ICE alleging the use of racial profiling to conduct raids and abduct people, including U.S. citizens.

That Republic, we couldn’t keep it; April 9, 1865 – June 3, 2025

From the NY Times: “The House took its first step early Thursday toward a final vote on President Trump’s marquee domestic policy bill, after Republicans put down a revolt by conservative holdouts that had threatened to sink it…

Representative Hakeem Jeffries of New York, the Democratic leader who began speaking on the floor of the House at 4:53 a.m., just earned bronze: his is officially the third longest House speech in the chamber’s history. There is buzz in the Capitol over whether he is trying for the longest House floor speech, a record held by former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who once spoke for over 8.5 hours.”

From the LA Times:

“The budget bill would make Immigration and Customs Enforcement the highest-funded law enforcement agency in the federal government, exceeding its current yearly $3.4-billion detention budget many times over. It also would impose fees on immigration services that were once free or less expensive and make it easier for local law enforcement to work with federal authorities on immigration.”

“Though the legislation is still evolving, the immigration provisions in the House and Senate versions are similar and not subject to the intense debates on other issues, such as Medicaid or taxes.”

Los Angeles Sues the Department of Homeland Security for violation of the U.S. Constitution

From Public Counsel:

“Last night, Southern California residents, workers, and advocacy groups across various industries sued the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in federal court for abducting and disappearing community members using unlawful stop and arrest practices and confining individuals at a federal building in illegal conditions while denying them access to attorneys.

‘Since June 6th, marauding, masked goons have descended upon Los Angeles, terrorizing our brown communities and tearing up the Constitution in the process,’ said Mohammad Tajsar, senior staff attorney with the ACLU Foundation of Southern California, representing the plaintiffs. ‘No matter their status or the color of their skin, everyone is guaranteed Constitutional rights to protect them from illegal stops. We will hold DHS accountable.’

The plaintiffs seek to represent two classes of individuals, people who have been or will be subjected to unlawful practices of 1) suspicionless stops and 2) warrantless arrests without evaluations of flight risk.

Plaintiffs are requesting the court certify the case as a class action and issue preliminary and permanent injunctions stopping further violations of Fourth and Fifth Amendment rights.”
