Our new Canon 5D has arrived with a 50mm 1.4 lens to support it. A new chapter awaits us.

Let The City Know.

Pioneer chicken is a childhood favorite of mine going all the way back to when my brother and I were barely tall enough to peer over at the fries being prepared across the counter! The franchise was a frequent must-have up until our early teens, when it was forced to close both of its locations in our neighborhood not long after we finished eighth grade. At Sunset blvd and Fountain ave, the Pioneer chicken was replaced by Del Taco, while in Echo Park, at Echo Park Avenue and Sunset blvd, the franchise was supplanted by a Little Caesar’s.
Since then, I missed its greasy combinations every time I passed by these old grounds, but the other day, when a friend and I were driving through Boyle Heights I just so happened to spot its old sign: the one and only Pioneer chef, a large and friendly figure! As soon as I got home later that afternoon, I shared the news with mom, and it was then quickly settled: We were going the next day.
The following morning, mom and I hopped on the bus to the Pioneer at Whittier blvd and Soto street and got our chicken legs, thighs, some mashed potatoes, and of course, the hot and spicy Pioneer rice; and it was great to sit at the old spot’s booth again, knowing that even after all this time, we’re all still here: alive, kickin’ and enjoying the savory roots of our city together.

Dear Friends, Family, and Other Members of this Community,
Today it is my distinct pleasure to inform you that together:
WE DID IT!
After fifteen days, we officially reached our fundraising goal this morning to make the impossible, just possible! Now, a new camera awaits the pages of JIMBO TIMES. And I hope you’ll stay tuned, because our journey together has only just begun. After all, JT is designed to tell ‘L.A. stories’ for the people of Los Angeles, making this first camera OUR investment.
Our fundraising effort is also a bookmark by which to remember that when people reach out to one another, they find not only that they’re not alone in this world, but that they are respected, appreciated, and ultimately loved by others who can recognize a fellow human being in need.
Thank you so much once more, and please know that all of you have a friend in both mom and I as we continue forward alongside The City. Together we wish you an amazing new year in peace, health, and magnificent success.
From another gorgeous day in ever sunny Los Angeles,

I first met Mrs. Weiss in 2002 when I was just a pee-wee in her seventh grade math class at Thomas Starr King Middle School. It was a rather hectic time for yours truly. Having just learned the ins and outs of our school system, my friends and I weren’t exactly the friendliest bunch of students, but we were especially a handful with “nice” teachers. Ms. Weiss, it’d turn out, was a nice teacher. Hailing straight out of Cal State San Bernardino, she was barely into her second year at King when we met. From the start, then, our time together was always going to be a growing experience.
Over the course of the days that’d follow, legends would be born in the classroom we shared. Some good, some bad, and some just better left unspoken. At least in the context of this story, that is.
